Additionally, Brendan is a co-founder of McKenzie & Keim.

In 2022, Brendan took the leap into his own design consultancy, Brendan Keim Design, utilizing over 15 years of experience to focus on lighting design and product development.

Fittingly born in the Brass City of Waterbury, CT and raised on the shoreline of Connecticut, Brendan spent his youth wandering beaches and forests, consuming science fiction, building forts, and taking things apart. HIs passion for art, science, & math led him down a rather winding path to lighting design.

Brendan holds a BID from Pratt Institute and an MFA in Furniture Design from Rhode Island School of Design, in addition to studying furniture design as part of Danmark’s Designskol in Copenhagen.

Like his parents, Brendan has a strong background as an educator. From creating and running age-specific lighting classes for 7-13 & 14-18 year-olds at the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, running a woodshop at a children’s summer camp in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, pairing up with world-renowned glass artist Anders Rydstedt for a glass & light workshop at Urban Glass in Brooklyn, to time spent as an Adjunct Professor at Rhode Island School of Design, Brendan has taught students at various levels and skillsets, always with the focus on skill-based lessons to empower students’ creativity.

Brendan's work has been featured in Wallpaper, Surface Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, & DIY Furniture 2.
